Custom Work Shirts for Roofing & HVAC Crews: What to Order

When you’re ordering apparel for a roofing, HVAC, construction, landscaping, or service crew, the goal is not simply to put a logo on a shirt. You need pieces your team will actually wear, branding customers can recognize, and an ordering setup that is easy to repeat when you hire someone new or the season changes.

The best uniform package usually mixes a few garment types instead of forcing every employee into the same shirt. Field crews, estimators, office staff, and owners often need different levels of comfort, visibility, and polish. Here’s a practical way to build the order.

Start with the job each shirt needs to do

Before choosing a garment or decoration method, separate your team by how the apparel will be used. Installers and field crews may prioritize comfortable everyday tees or performance shirts. Estimators, salespeople, project managers, and customer-facing technicians may benefit from polos or other collared options. Hats, hoodies, jackets, and long sleeves can round out the program without making every employee’s kit identical.

This also makes the quote more useful. Instead of asking for “50 company shirts,” you can request a mix that matches the actual roles on your team.

Screen-printed work tees: strong for crew-wide branding

Screen printing is a natural fit when you want the same design repeated across a larger run of crew shirts. It works especially well when your branding includes a left-chest mark plus a larger back design that needs to be easy to recognize from a distance.

For trades, keep the design readable. A shirt does not need every service you offer squeezed onto the back. Your company name, recognizable logo, and the most useful contact or brand information are usually more valuable than a wall of tiny text.

Embroidered polos: a polished option for customer-facing roles

Embroidery is well suited to smaller logo placements on polos, hats, jackets, and other professional workwear. For an estimator walking a roof with a homeowner, a salesperson meeting a commercial client, or a technician entering a customer’s business, an embroidered logo can create a clean, consistent presentation without requiring a large graphic.

If your logo has very fine detail or tiny lettering, it is worth reviewing the artwork before production. Designs that look perfect on a screen sometimes need to be simplified or adjusted to reproduce cleanly in thread.

DTF: useful when the artwork or order calls for flexibility

Direct-to-film (DTF) transfers can be a strong option for detailed, full-color artwork and certain smaller or mixed apparel runs. The right choice depends on the garment, artwork, quantity, placement, and how the finished piece will be used. A good quote should evaluate those factors instead of automatically steering every job toward the same decoration method.

Build a uniform package, not a pile of shirts

A practical trades apparel package might include everyday crew tees, a small set of polos for customer-facing employees, embroidered hats, and seasonal layers such as long sleeves, hoodies, or jackets. You do not need all of those pieces on the first order. The point is to choose a system that can grow with the company.

If you expect to reorder, keep the core design consistent. Record the garment style, color, logo placement, print colors, and approved artwork. That makes future orders for new hires, replacements, or seasonal restocks much easier to reproduce.

What to have ready before requesting a quote

You can get a more useful quote faster when you send the basics up front: your approximate quantity, garment types, preferred colors, size breakdown if available, logo or artwork, desired print or embroidery locations, delivery destination, and the date you actually need the order in hand.

If you are unsure about the exact garment or decoration method, say that. A custom apparel company should be able to recommend options around the job instead of making you become a printing expert first.

Plan reorders before you run out

Trades businesses rarely make one apparel purchase and never order again. New hires, damaged workwear, weather changes, company growth, and brand updates create recurring needs. Treating uniforms as a repeatable program helps prevent the scramble of rebuilding the order from scratch every time someone needs another shirt.
